See said the upcoming school board election will not be affected by this ordinance, but if the changes are to be made, the state requires they be made by Jan. The longest drive would be from the southwest corner of Canaan Township to Winfield, about 15 miles. See said that was taken into consideration. The supervisors said one concern from citizens may be driving distance. The dates for the meetings were not decided today. The supervisors would like to have public input on the idea, so there will be three public meetings held before the three readings are scheduled for the ordinance. Precinct nine would be Baltimore and New London Townships and include New London. Precinct eight would be Salem and Jackson Townships and include Salem and Hillsboro. Pleasant would hold precincts four, five, six and seven. Precinct three would include Trenton, Tippecanoe, Marion and the rural portions of Center Township and include Rome and Westwood. Union and the other half of Wayne Township. Precinct two would be Canaan and Scott Townships including Winfield and Mt. Precinct one would be comprised of Jefferson Township to include the cities of Wayland, Olds and Coppock and the portion of Wayne Township west of James Avenue. Supervisor Gary See said the three supervisors sat down and looked at population and distance, among other things, to decide how to divide the county into nine precincts, plus an absentee precinct. As these poll workers get older, it is more difficult to get to poll locations and spend long hours helping voters. The average age of a poll worker is between 75 and 80.

The county will be receiving about $137,000 from the federal government to help defer the costs.įewer precincts will make it easier to find poll workers, the supervisors said. Kim Burden, elections clerk with the Henry County Auditor's Office, said it will cost about $12,000 per precinct to bring them up to date. One reason the supervisors cited for wanting the reduction is the costs of new voting machines and bringing voting locations up to HAVA standards.
